Gilberto Moreira is 81 years old, Brazilian and was born in 1940, in the city Niteroi, Rio De Janeiro. Gilberto has always been painting and drawing since he was very young. Between 1955-1958 he went on to the art school ‘Escola fluminense de Belas Artes’ learning from Aluizio and Bustamantte. The lectors' style was impressionism.

After military service while serving as a sergeant, he worked in a construction company in Rio De Janeiro. That all changed when he turned 24 years old. Gilberto used singing as his expression of life. He was very fond of jazz music, specifically his icon, Nat King Cole and then started to imitate him in his twenties. In 1964 he got invited to be a part of a music group called ‘Cry Babies’ as the lead singer in the band. He toured with the band in Argentina, Chile, Paraguay and Uruguay. Cry Babies gained a lot of international success and he played at the grand Royal Albert Hall in London.

After Cry Babies Gilberto packed his suitcase and went to Europe - hoping to make it as a musician. He got signed in a group called 'Boa Nova' that started in 1976 in Paris with Edison Machado on drums, Mozar Terra on piano, Ricardo Santos on bass, Paulo on trumpet and Pascal Jangobctian on tenor sax, until 1978. He once told me that it was the best group he ever worked with. The two unforgettable years in his life as a musician were shared with Boa Nova.

In 1978 he got signed to the jazz group ‘Lafayette’, which played Bossa Nova worldwide, but particularly in Paris, where he lived for a couple of years - performing with music and painting.

In 1987 Gilberto formed a group with his Danish friends called 'Via Brasil' that lasted until 1996. It all started in Paris and his fellow musicians were Per Trolle on piano, Niels Linchenberg on bass, Michael Åby on drums, Lars Trolle on guitar and Morten Grunvad on percussion. In Denmark he has played with Stan Getz at a Danish jazz club called Montmartre.

Gilberto speaks six different languages, which are Portugeese, French, Spanish, Italian, English and Danish. He has been living in Denmark since 1984, where he has been working as a musician, artist and a gartner. He has two kids with a danish woman, is divorced and lives in Frederiksberg, Copenhagen. He has been singing in Italian, French, English & Portuguese.

His paintings have been exhibited in Paris ‘Maison de l'amérique latine’, South of France, Portugal and on the “Moon”, Christiania, Copenhagen. His painting style is impressionism and he was inspired by Monet and Pissaro.
